Moxibustion

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy using moxa made from dried mugwort (Artemisia argyi). It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China. 2500 years ago, it was found that moxibustion is especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems, “deficient conditions” (weakness), and gerontology.  Moxibustion militates against cold and dampness in the body, it therefore is used for treating conditions associated with the “cold” or “yang deficiencies” to boost patient’s immune system. It also serves to turn breech babies. The doctor burns moxa to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi to reach the purpose of health maintenance and healing. Moxibustion can be used indirectly with acupuncture needles, or burned on the patient’s skin directly.
